About Ballard Gynaecology

Mr Paul Ballard has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Vaginal and Pelvic Floor Surgeon since the year 2000, with extensive experience both in the NHS and private sector. In the NHS he leads the Urogynaecology service at both James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. In the private sector he works at Woodlands BMI Hospital (Private) in Darlington, and the Nuffield Hospital at Leeds. He also holds a regular telephone / video (Teams) clinic which can free you from the burden of travelling and parking. So, even if you live some distance from eg Woodlands in Darlington, you can register with Woodlands, but have a telephone consultation.

His research years were spent studying the menopause and its treatments, and he maintains expertise on this.

Paul has a particular expertise in vaginal and complex pelvic floor surgery and is actively involved in research in this area as well as developing minimal access techniques. He has an academic track record having published in national and international journals and having lectured and presented research internationally. He possesses a Higher Degree (Academic) having written a Thesis.

He was a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the School of Medicine at the University of Durham & Newcastle and has run training courses for junior doctors and other consultants. He was Chairman of the Governance Committee of the British Society of Urogynaecologists for 5 years, and as such has produced and edited information sheets designed for patients. He has a natural flare for conveying complex medical information to the layperson in a readily digestible format.

In the private sector he has a network of colleagues he works with so if you have a complex problem outside his field of expertise he can find the right person to help you.
